Student Group for International Exchange(SGIE)
The 2019 Annual Report of the Student Group for International Exchange (SGIE)
3 rd year Amu Baba
Thank you for reading the SGIE annual report. SGIE is a group of Jikei students interested in international exchange and willing to welcome and help exchange students visiting our school. Below is the summary of the events SGIE held in 2019. SGIE members developed friendship with exchange students through activities, ranging from weekly lunch sessions to seasonal events.
【International Café】
International Café, held every Monday at noon, celebrated its 5th anniversary last year. Around 30 people gather at a time, facilitating communication among Jikei and exchange students. The total number of attendee in 2019 was up to 564. Exchange students made a few presentations every week on topics like their homeland or impressions of Japan, which taught us differences perspectives.
【Shaved Ice Party】
On July 22 nd, we held a Shaved Ice Party after the International Café. We prepared not only the usual flavors, but also some special ones, such as kuromitu-kinako, azuki, and green tea.
【Fireworks Festival】
On July 27 th, we went to see the fireworks festival at the Sumida River. Some of us wore beautiful yukata. We enjoyed snacks and drinks from yatai. After enjoying the fireworks, we also had teppanyaki dinner together.
【Halloween Party】
On October 28 th, we held a Halloween Party. We enjoyed pizzas, drinks, and cakes together.
【Small Events with Exchange Students】
Members took a step out of the hospital to nurture friendships. Some went out for casual dinner together.
